While I will always say that the 911 is still the ultimate sports/hobby car (I do enjoy working on them as much as driving them) there is something to be said in buying a running car as the disparity between a project and a running car isn't what it used to be - sometimes there isn't much of a difference at all. I'd wait to buy a car that runs (at least a little) because time is valuable.
For me a Cayman has been very tempting because I honestly like the look(as I always tried to force myself to like a Boxster and it never worked) - and I am interested to see what Matt does with his.
To get an aircooled that needs work vs. maybe a running 2002 996 Carrera 4 it would be a hard decision for me right now - but like I said, I really do enjoy working on aircooled 911s as they are fun - but working on them isn't for everyone.
