Just out of the military at 21 yrs. of age and ready to write a $5,600 OTD check for a new maroon '67 912. A phone call to the dealer away from the purchase.
I had already test driven the car and in my heart it was mine. I spent a few sleepless nights dreaming of it. I could almost taste it.
But I was working for the gov't and with a wise man who had tons in mutual funds.
He convinced me to get into the market by almost shaming me for "blowing" money on a car.
Knowing me and the lower middle income class from which I came, I would have cherished that car forever.
I remember the pain of going with my head and not my heart. And I secretly hated that guy for being a wise man.
BTW, the money I put into mutual funds grew rapidly. But not having that car haunted me for years.
