3 years ago we downsized. We went from a 2000sqft house with 2 car garage and attic over the garage and house to a 1250sqft apt with 2 large closets. After 8 months or so, we then downsized to an 850sqft apt with 2 closets, then another 8 months later, we moved to a different 850sqft apt with 1 small closet. We have 2 storage units, but now after 3 years, we are preparing to go get rid of enough stuff to get down to only 1 storage unit.

We packed ourselves and then paid a company to get the boxes and furniture, put them in a truck and then get them from the truck into the new apt. It was still a ton of work and we were beat afterward.

We were only in the house for about 20 years and had been in apts or townhouses before that. I assume for most folks that have been in homes longer or in larger homes, it would be more difficult.

Shoot, just moving from one unit to another in the same apt complex on the same floor is a pain. Yeah, moving REALLY sucks. If you pay someone else to do it, then you've got to worry about breakage too.
