Thanks for all the comments. I had my second conversation with the dealer today and learned a little more about the car and the previous owner. He had the car for 2 years, then traded it to the dealer last November for a 964 Tiptronic so that his wife, who can't drive stick, could drive as well!
@specialtyoneinc - No records from the accident or the repair, and the previous owner elected to buy the car based on overall condition despite the lack of info, according to the dealer.
@amadajg - The dealer assures me that the carpets are unfaded and in good shape and simply didn't photograph accurately. There are no cracks anywhere in the dash.
I will ask as much as possible by email and phone, then arrange a PPI and body shop consultation if I'm satisfied with what I'm hearing and seeing. The dealer is waiting for my email with a number of questions, and is ready to send scans of all maintenance records as well. In my experience dealers here of course want to make a sale, but are generally quite honest about condition and history. I'm sure there are shady dealers out there, but they seem to be the exception.
I appreciate everyone's comments, and am reassured that no one is pointing out glaring problems or deviations from what we'd expect to see. I'll continue my due diligence and keep you posted.
