We did almost the same thing, I had the ring custom made which was not cheap and then used all CZ's in it. To the casual onlooker it would be hard to tell.
As the years went by and I could afford to, I swapped all the CZ's for actual diamonds. Now her ring is 100% diamonds.
Which is something that can be passed down to our kids and so on.
