Damn I'm old...I actually knew Gary Wright & Mike Eyerly...(see race history of the 904). May they Rest in peace...bought my '69 912 from Eyerly Motors in Salem, my '70T from Gary Wright who sold for the then new Continental Porsche/Audi owned by Gunter Knapp.
Gary a salesman who cared about his customers. One day, Gary driving my car on our way to lunch, he asked; "how long has your first gear sounded like this?" I responded it always sounded like that. Car was less than 1,000 miles old. When back at the dealership, the car was kept for a gearbox rebuild, a loaner car issued for my 95 miles drive back home to work.
Things were just more "family" back then.
