Lovely story, Paul.

2 comments about the Speedster. No, it does not appear to have had a hard life. It has been used and enjoyed AND taken care of. There are way too many over restored Speedsters out there today and people don't realize they weren't built to the pristine standards of today [if you think this is rough and has issues- you should see what most older Ferraris looked like when the paint was stripped off! Talk about "panel beating". One look and you would instantly understand the "beating" part.]

Also, there were about 200 Speedsters built in 1954. This was #8 out of 21 with the more powerful engine, but it is the 51st speedster built. My first Speester was 80110 and was the same 1500S specification. These early Speesters were oriented towards racing with bits like aluminum seats and weighted just over 1600 Lb. My first Porsche was a '58 coupe and it was a relevation how much quicker and more fun the Speedster was. I owned them both for a while and they were night and day.
