Guy at work and his wife had 4 kids. They are from Kentucky. A couple of times a year they would load up in a Van and drivet to Kentucky and back. Said the drive took 2 days so they had the travel expense of the van and motel for 6. Plue the on-the-road food etc for traveling with 4 kids.

He got his pilot's license and rents a Cherokee 6 place plane at that same airport and they fly to Kentucky and back. He even got his instrument rating and keeps it up so he can fly any time. He joined a club at that airport and with the vacations and flying to keep his instrument ratings being in the club saves even more.

Siad it takes less time in a day than they spent driving for just one of the two days. And all total including keeping his rating up is the same money as driving. Bonus they get to spend more time with their family and less headaches driving with all the kids. Said kids sleep on the plane where they just made racket in the van.
