Years ago I met a guy at the Bay Bottom Crawl, it is held in the Keys every year and is a test in sanity. Hemingway would be proud. It was the fastest Autocross I had ever participated in and knowing what my car does at certain RPM's I know I hit 130 at least one time and saw 110 a few times. You are on a 20' wide road, no runoff at all, it is lined with either mangroves or water.

They give out a trophy for the person that wrecks the worst and puts their car furthest into the drink.

This guy was across the pits from me in a Porsche 944 was older, how old I was not sure. We got to talking about the course and the best way to handle this one turn where there is a giant dip that throws the car sideways at 60-70 MPH. I just flat out asked him how old he was. He told me the club lets him change his car number every year to match his age. He car number was 86.

I was blown away, a new hero. I mentioned him to another guy there, he told me to go check the time board and see his times. He was not winning, he was not slowest, he was right in the middle of the mix with all the other Porsche 944's there mixing it up with cats half his age.

Age is just a number, while a relative young buck, I am doing my best to not grow up.

I want to be like that guy.
