Thanks guys. Yes, Ed appears to be a rather bright young lad, and has been very easy to train. He already has quite the vocabulary - sit, here, hungry?, outside, down, mark, fetch, drop - and maybe a couple more. For now, though, he is a typical puppy - he obeys only when he wants to. The serious obedience training starts when he's about six months old. I've become a big fan of the "Koehler method", having utilized Mr. Koehler's methods on my last two dogs with outstanding results.
What a little bundle of energy, especially after having grown accustomed to his predecessor, Katie the Wonder Dog. Ed is just filled with boundless exuberance, really digging his first four and a half months on this planet. Everyone he meets is his new best friend for life, every place he goes is his new favorite place. And he is already a swimming fool, swimming just because, whether he is retrieving or not. So full of life.
