A rain shield was OEM on my 1980 911SC. It is shown on 803-05, 911 512 109 01, air duct. It is shown as installed thru the 1980 MY and that space is blank on 1984-89 Carreras. I removed it when I installed my aftermarket AC system when I brought the car to the US from Germany in 1987. This rain shield deflected rain water away from the distributor and other electronics along that general line of the engine below the grill. After I removed it and installed the AC, I had some trouble with water in the distributor, causing the car to not start.
