While at the Porsche garage yesterday...

Waiting for the plugs to be installed I went out front of the shop for a smoke. Ambled over and was checking out a track outfitted Cayman when I heard an unintelligible half mumble half yell behind me.

The shop is half a block from the City Rescue Mission and standing out front makes you prey for the homeless street people near their hangout. Though hey usually don't bother the Porsche owners. So I stay focused on the Cayman and don't turn around hoping it wasn't directed at me.

Another mumbly sound behind me, less of a yell but closer. It reminded me of the time I called software tech support and the company was in London. The phone receptionist that answered talked so fast with such a heavy london accent I had to think about what she said before I could answer. And every word she used was English. Finally told her with a bit of a southern drawl I was calling from Oklahoma and if she could just slow down a bit I could understand better. She laughed and slowed down. Luckily the tech she transferred me to while obviously British didn't talk fast or have a thick accent.

This homeless guy sounded like that. Only instead of British it was that kind of mumbly sing songy slang you hear shopping cart homeless people talking to them selves with. Complete with random words louder than others.

He pulled up beside me on a old bicycle. He started his continuous sing songy mumbling thing saying something about not to be afraid he was wearing the helmet for safety. He was indeed wearing a batter's helmet. But was also wearing a wrinkled black pinstripe suit and tennis shoes that looked like they used to be white. he was clean shaven but his skin was that blackish tan color of someone that spends a lot of time outside, but doesn't wash too frequently. He didn't have BO or stink thankfully.

He kept up the unintelligible mumbling but I noticed he was holding an unlit cigarette. So I pulled my lighter out and held it out lit for him to light is cigarette. Even when lighting the cigarette he never stopped mumbling long enough for me to decipher what he was mumbling let alone say anything. After lighting his cigarette tone of his mumbling changed to sound happier and he pedaled off. As he got about 15 ft away his mumbling got louder then he said, "Over and Out!" And rode off down the street away from the Mission.

When I went back inside the shop the owner, service writer both mechanics and two other Porsche owners were standing there. They had been watching. The service writer apologized that I was bothered. Said I wasn't bothered, but did she hear what he said. She said no they couldn't hear really well, it sounded like mumbling and he was probably asking for money. Said "no" he said, and in my best imitation, "Mumble, MUMBLE mumble mumble, hemet, mumble mumble."

They all cracked up. As the laugh started to quiet I said..And as he was riding off he said "mumble mumble MUMBLE MUMBLE, Over and Out!" Set them off again. One of the mechanic almost fell over laughing and saying "over and out."
