Drum brakes

Going through the brakes on a 73 jeep commando, and a few of the brake shoes were kinda nasty.
At $25 per axle, replacing all the shoes was an easy decision.
However, the NEW shoes are about half the thickness of the original 74k miles shoes!
Different materials, so I am going with the new.
But... the rears won't center properly.
Not in/out, but low.
Missing by about 1mm or so, so the drum drags on the shoes.
Switched shoes to different locations and all is well, except for one shoe.
No matter where it goes it drags on the drum.
What do you guys think about using 7 New shoes and 1 old one?
It's on the rear, if that matters.
