But whale tails with only slight variations continued to appear on various 911's through 1989. Don't kid yourself that the average 911 buyer is familiar with the differences between, for example, an early whale tail and an SC whale tail. I see "original" cars all the time with the wrong whale tail.

Don't have the numbers in front of me but, off the top of my head, something like 2,200 ducktail cars produced in 73/74. Remember that in 1974 the ducktail was declared illegal in Germany so no German cars were ducktail equipped. In addition, a significant number of U.S. cars were ordered ducktail-delete. I own one of these cars.

Early whale tail production from 75 through 77 (Carrera/Turbo) was about 6,500 cars.

I need to update some numbers but over the 3-year period from 2014-2016, 1974 Carreras in my data sold in an average of 17 days with an unsold rate of 14%. 1975 cars sold in 66 days with an unsold rate of 38%. Rough numbers to be sure, and an admittedly unscientific analysis, but still interesting. Well, interesting to me. I assume others have much more rewarding hobbies than I do.
