I'm sure there's justification out there for LR reliability issues... Same as IMS/RMS on porsches...
All I know is the wife had a Disco 1, disco 2, 2x LR3s and now a RR sport... All well used. Wanna know how many breakdowns we had over the past 15+ years ? None....
Off hand I recall one coolant tank cracking (but driveable). One catalytic converter (warranty is long on exhaust, like 10y). And a headliner falling off (my bad, left the sunroof open during a rainstorm, sold that one)
I also remember towing stuff without noticing it was there, carrying 7 people, driving not just thru but inside rivers with the LR folks, mudding in the ocala forest, and my favorite: being the only car out post hurricane on flooded roads (w/snorkel). They are cool cars, I don't know that they deserve all that negativity (from the point of view of a serial owner, not just repeating what I read online).. I'd look at a nice LR3 for best bang for the buck... $15K buys a nice one... RR sport is comfier and sportier but has little trunk space vs. LR3/4. There's also a supercharged RR sport that'll give a Cayenne turbo a run for its $ too... Still I think used LR3 is where it's at $ for $
