Well worth a trip to South Carolina to see it. There's absolutely no comparison between partial (even 99.99% coverage) and totality. You ONLY get the corona effect with totality. It was possible to see bright RED solar flares shooting out into space from the lunar disk unaided with a whiteish backdrop of the solar corona against the midnight blue-black of the sky (my iPhone photos do it no justice at all). Simply awesome. "Diamond ring" effect, Bailey's Beads, etc. all visible.
