Motivation comes from within. At best, as a manager, you can tap into what motivates some people and direct it towards the work that needs to be done. At worst, someone just plain doesn't respond to anything in your toolbox.

Some people are motivated by money. Some by time off. Some by a sense of accomplishment. Some want to be busy. Some want to do work quickly so they can go back to being lazy. Some just hate their job and don't want to do it.
