the rickman restoration

my pops is the berries! he put me on a motorcycle at the age of 5 and had me racing MX by 7 ir so, had me race go-karts, enduros & contributed to my spec racer build and was my biggest fan on every race weekend.

he rode bultaco's and husky's pretty much exclusively in the 70-80's other than an enduro season on a 78 PE175 that he bequeathed to me the following season when I turned 14 and was district 36 eligible to compete in enduros. he also instilled the DIY attitude in me and often told me I could not learn with my mouth open. I still remember that, but I'm no better at practicing his preaching on that to this day...

anyway, a life long buddy of my pops is suffering cancer and it became clear to my old man that the guy always regretted not putting his old 70's rickman moto crosser back together before he got sick. with it in boxes in his garage my pops with some help of his wife was able to recover most of the parts. he has spent the last three months reassembling it while having to fab some simple parts, install period correct, but not rickman levers, shifter and brake foot lever. he has shinned and cleaned the thing from bow to stern even the spokes.

well, he got it running today for the 1st time in what could be 40+ years! he will be taking it back to grass valley this weekend to his sick buddy that may not ride it, but I'm sure will enjoy just looking at it to remind him of his vibrant youth. doing this as you can see by his grin has taken my 71 y/o pops back to his motorsports days as well.

joe's son,
