If one is forced to use a crush washer again, and by forced I mean no access at all like at the track or in the boonies, it is important that:
-both surfaces are clean
- washer is not oval
- washer is totally flat even if you have to hand mill it on flat surface using 400 grit or so
- that old drain plug is not cracked around area just wider than 8mm opening
Best to keep a few on hand along with extra aluminum drain plug
