Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is one of the key elements involved in the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) process. It is a nontoxic solution of 67.5% de-mineralized water and 32.5% automotive grade urea. DEF helps to convert NOx into nitrogen gas and water vapor. It is stable, non-flammable, odorless, and colorless.
Cold weather, DEF starts to freeze at 12°F. DEF spec is not impacted by freezing and subsequent defrosting.
Hot Weather: Store below 86°F. Exposure to excessive heat for extended time will reduce shelf life (90°F storage reduces shelf life to 6 months)
