The DIN connector is used to connect the tuner part of the radio to the amplifier portion. It can be wired so you can install a socket to wire in an auxiliary input (iPod, MP3, etc.) if desired. If you look carefully, you'll see small wires connecting the terminals in the plastic plug.
And definitely connect that ground lug in the back of your radio.
