In North America, only in Quebec are the mortgage notarized as the justice system is a juridical legal system (pertaining to the administration of justice) under which civil matters are regulated by French-heritage civil law.
When I move to Ontario I could not believe that I would have to trust a "lawyer" for my house closing.
