Maybe. Just remember there is a counter to that statement that goes something like: "The quickest way to destroy a passion is by trying to make money doing it".
Then there is the notion that if you work hard and become an expert at something you might not have chosen at first, the passion will follow. Ok, enough Confucius-speak for now, lol...

Considering that (and if aerospace/defense/automotive leaves you wanting), you might look into the oil/gas exploration or mining fields.
I have some friends/family working as engineers in those fields and they make a ton of money, and are treated like kings by their employers.
