The torque on those M8 studs will be under 18 lbs ft., which feels like a little more than hand tight. The cover isn't really holding anything on there except that little plate. So no need to kill it.
If you are putting lots of torque on there, and not doing it evenly, you'll be warping that plate or creating gaps.
