On my old '80 SC I had a leak at the same place. A new seal didn't fix it. I brought it to a shop and they used some kind of a sealant with a gasket (might have been RTV but I know it wasn't silicone), it's been so long ago I can't remember exactly what they used.
Whatever it was it worked because it never leaked again.
