Tis the same. Someone was modifying cars, some other people got annoyed about it, and a marketing buzzword appears. It mostly bothers me because people have been modifying classics for decades and suddenly if you do it to a Porsche it's an outlaw? It always struck me as a pretentious term for car that has simply been modified.
Then again I still hear people argue over the pronunciation of a word that can't exist in the English phonetic system, sooo...
