I think it is pretty convoluted but in nutshell, they each own media outlets that distro cable and also each own networks; both categories directly compete with each other. There is also a Univision / Telemundo issue. NBC owns Tele and one possibly two of Liberty's subsidiaries distro's Univision which is a direct competitor of Telemundo. NBC owns several entertainment platforms, Liberty owns Discovery and Starz.
So, if I have this right, NBC were good to broadcast F1 when the owner was not a TV/media conglomerate but now their interests at the larger corporate level conflict. Which is weird since NBC does not have a direct asset that conflicts/competes with F1 so really they are just broadcasting for a competitor.
That is at least how I understand the issue.
