The last time I jumped awake I'd been asleep about 5 minutes.
We had a toy poodle that we let out for a few minutes to pee just before bedtime. I had been asleep, and I got up, groggy and half asleep, to let her out, then fell asleep again. A few minutes later I sorta heard what sounded like coyotes right outside the house. My eyes slammed open when I realized my little dog was still out there - with the coyotes! I jumped out of bed to go save her and just then the car alarm went off. WTF? There are wild coyotes, car thieves, and my terrified dog right outside my door and I'm stumbling around naked trying to figure out what to save first. And is the house on fire too?
Then I realized
I don't have a car alarm!
I let the dog in and got my pistol to see what the hell was going on with my car.
Turns out there were no coyotes, the sound was my dog howling to let me know she needed in, and when I went to bed I had dropped my pants on the floor right next to the bed. I had set off the panic alarm when I stepped on the key fob getting out of bed.
What a way to wake up.
It took some time a couple glass of wine to get back to sleep that night.
