Honda Civic engine replacement

My DD is a 2008 Honda Civic. It's an appliance. I bought it due to Honda's reputation for reliability and low cost of operation. So far, it's only had a couple minor items go wrong over its 132K-mile lifespan.

But now I've been struck by the infamous cracked engine block problem (only on the 1.8 motors; not the 2.0 Si motor or the hybrid motor). My car started weeping coolant from the front side of the motor, from behind/underneath the header, and almost overheated. Apparently there are hairline fractures in the block, itself. It affects 8th generation Civics from 2006-2009.

Here's the kicker: It's a known problem, now warrantied for 10 years from original date of purchase. I'm only 8 months from this deadline. So, regardless of miles, Honda with replace the block or motor...as long as the car is less than 10 years-old. I've since read (on the interwebs) of people a month out from their 10 years, and they got denied by their local dealership. I can't imagine how much this is gonna cost Honda.

So if anyone's got a Civic from 2008 or 2009 ('cause the 2006s and 07s are no longer covered), keep an eye on the coolant level.
