If the gun takes 3" you should be fine with a gun with a plug setup for 3" rounds. I'd call your DNR and get their take though.

Mossberg 500 shooter here as well. Have a nephew who won a few turkey shoots at the local gun club against Benelli and Remington skeet guns. Should have seen the looks on the faces of the owners.
