I should point out that only 1x in 160k miles of Mini driving did the car fail to get my wife home. Our Gen 1 had the main crank pulley fail and the car went into limp mode and we had it towed. Always got us where we needed to go otherwise.
So they have generally been reliable, but have needed expensive maintenance along the way.
