Engine Whining

I have a 2000 Boxster with about 78,000 miles on it. Recently I have had an engine whine that is puzzling me.

The whining starts a bit quiet, then it tends to get a louder. It is loudest when in traffic and stopped at idle. When I accelerate and increase the RPM, it changes pitch and gets a bit quieter.

Odd thing about it is, after about 10-15 minute, it just stops. There are no issues with heat, performance and no warning lights. I am going to replace the drive belt which will give me an opportunity to inspect the pulleys, but was wondering if anyone had a clue what to look for.

No use taking it to the shop as it would be silent by the time I got there and I try to do all my maintenance myself anyway.

Any input will be appreciated
