At my first job I worked with a old black man name Benny. He was in his late 60s. He told me about "Green Lizard" which was hair tonic. It was like 15% alcohol but had the smell of every barber shop of the time. In Benny's words, the first sip is bad, but after 1/2 a bottle it ain't so bad. I never tried it.
I worked there for several years. When I was old enough to get into clubs I tried a Screwdriver at a club and it was pretty good. They next day I saw a bottle of Orange flavored vodka and figured it would be like a screw driver. It was horrid. One sip and I spit it out. I gave the bottle to ol' Benny. A few days later I asked him how it was and he said something that I have remembered all my life as a great quote:
"It was just right" and I of course asked what he meant. "If it was any better you would not have given it to me, and worse and I could not have drunk it!"

I learned that I really like beer. I have not bough a bottle of hard booze in 40 years.
