How far down your foot do the shoes lace? If they are like most tennis or running shoe or like hiking boots with laces that go to the ball of your foot, make sure the lower part is laced tightly so all the the tightness is not across the top of your foot where they tie.
Also if the shoes have what looks like an extra hole at the top they is too far to lace comfortably...
run the lace from the same side into that hole making a loop across the last two holes on top, then cross the laces one more time going thru the loop. They when you tie the shoes it does two things. It kind of locks the laces, and it keeps your for from sliding front to back in your shoe.
I have some dress type redwings and the laces completely bring the leather together from top to bottom. Thee is no way for the bottom to loosen and be to tight across the top of my foot.
I also have some moccasin type shoes with only like 4 lace holes near the top. I have to tie those kind of loose, then make the knot itself very tight so it doesn't work loose or it will start pinching the tops of my feet.
It doesn't help to wear thicker socks either.
Getting a good fit is very very important. Not just length and width but how tall the room in the shoe is. It's about the last they are made on. When I first got custom shoes my pediatrist made me take them back. Instead of trying to fit my foot correctly they custom shoe place just fit me with some that the top of the toe box to the end of the tongue was stretchy. Went to another shoe place and the lady measured my foot all different ways then showed me some shoe to pick from that would work for me. I am on my 2nd pair. She was the one that taught me what to do with the extra lacing holes at the top of the shoe.
Learned a LOT about shoes after I stepped on that nail and had to get custom shoes. funny that some of my old shoes fit and wear fine as long as they are laced properly.
If you can't figure out the extra holes lacing thing, maybe I can send you a pic.
