That engine has an external oil filter. I've got the Briggs and Stratton version of similar size. When I did my first oil change- there wasn't one bit of visible metallic debri in the oil. Very unlike the cast iron kolher's I've had with no filters where the oil looks like a 1970's groovy metal flake paint when the initial oil came out.

Third with KC911. That's what I did. Do the change early as your comfort level demands.

edit- having had mine for about 2 years now, the oil always looks fresh. I think the biggest threat for mine, especially if this is a hopped up re-power, is to make sure the engine isn't getting clogged with grass clipping debri (if you are cutting grass). The aluminium cylinders are more susceptible to overheating.
