Cpcooper, understand your observation. Where else can you - would you - locate the seatbelt receiver? The belt itself has to be located in the "B" piller (for strength & adjustability)... the latch (receiver) is in a tight spot, but where else can it go?
I too, have to remember to pull the belt before closing the door. It's just one of those "quirks" that make our cars so unique. Not saying your observation is off target - there just ain't much room in the cabin.
