Ram VP 44 and lift pumps

1999 Ram 3500
Indecision is the key to flexibility, and I have been vacillating as to what to do with this POS system.
For a long time.
Lift pumps, injection pumps, yadeda
So -
My thought is to bolt on the old mechanical style lift pump.

I have understood my cam should still have the lump to run it.
(I will have to check)
Now to the point, - Should there be an accumulator between it and the VP to keep the pressure somewhat constant?
If so which one?
At low idle, I would think the volume would get a bet spiky?
Would it be a problem compared to the electric lift pump?
thanx!
