My Dad worked for Packard from 1935 to 1945 as a Tool and Die Maker...during the war the RR Merlin was what he worked on. Part of what he did was to work on a Merlin prototype for the P 38 fighter plane. In the History of Packard book published by the ACA, in the RR Merlin chapter there is a picture of him working in the shop where the Merlin was produced by Packard.

So that motor that Jay has, has some of my Dad's handiwork in it. I still have my Dad's tool and die making tools, as well as my Grandfathers mold making tools.

The same can be said of nearly every Ford built between 1916 and 1959 had some of my Grandfathers handiwork as he was a Speciality Mold Maker for Ford. He also did a lot of restoration work for the Henry Ford Museum.
