It is a Gulfstream 650 and the dark area in between the upper light panel and the lower displays is the windscreen. The reason you don't see anything is that we were at 41,000 ft and no other plane or lights up there. Moon was to the right and stars were above.
On landing you are using visual reference unless you're shooting to minimums and on an instrument approach.
