I remember contacting a member here who has a restoration paint shop. I asked what a windows out bare metal repaint would cost. He quoted me $35K plus gaskets for the glass. His work looks top notch. I don't (like most of the guys here) have a Godfather in the business, so my cost is all retail. Shops charge about $130 hr plus any additional cost (i.e coffee breaks, bathroom breaks, chit chatting, Arse scratching..etc..etc)...so yea it would be best getting into a car like the OP listed with an open mind...and wallet.
I'm not spending that on a driver. I'd spend $10k on paint and the other $10k is the rest. I'd just be putting the car back together cleanly to drive it. I would do about half the labor myself and pay someone else to do the heavy lifting.

Restoration guys call it a basketcase. Driver guys call it a project. $75k restores this car. $20k gets it on it's feet. It's just a matter of having a different end goal. I see a run of the mill late 70's 930. It's not a collectible to me, even if a restored or preserved one is a six figure car.
