Your alarm system is working fine....the horn sounded because you have the hood open to the engine compartment.
The alarm system activated by key, near the driver's door, but you probably already know this fact. There is within the engine compartment a button/switch near the fuse box on the engine firewall frame; triggers the alarm since the hood is open.
