It was cold on race morning in 1974. A guy a few camp spaces down got in his car that night to warm up with the engine running and woke up dead. Then Helmut Koenig did his dive into the Armco. That was the last year for me. |
I was there 75 - 79. Bunch of guys from the fraternity chipped in and rented a motor home every year. Parked it infield at the top of the chicane, first row from the track. We were a brazen bunch, and all walked into the paddocks thru an unmanned gate, and walked around like we owned the place. I've got a whole bunch of 35mm color prints of all the luminaries that I need to find and scan. Rob Walker (R&T) interviewing Colin Chapman, James Hunt, Mario Andretti, etc. With a nice last picture of an angry steward marching our way to eject us and our beers, which gave us away finally.
