Part of what you pay an insurance company those huge premiums for is to solve these types of problems. Although they'll never admit it--since insurance companies and their employees are the absolute lowest forms of human life--they have the obligation to sort it out, not you. Demand that they do the legwork. If they don't, file a complaint with your state's insurance commissioner. Report the tow yard operator to the consumer affairs division of your state's Attorney General's office. I bet he's got a track record. Keep the pressure up--don't give up, and don't surrender. You got screwed.

Sorry for your loss. I saw the picture online somewhere and figured it was a death car. Glad it saved you.
