These are hard to read with the glare on my screen. Do you have a pic with the unaffected hip in the same shot?
I would be looking for the intertrochanteric fracture as well. Hard to tell. There is also a "groin lateral" x ray they take with a different angle on the subject. That would be nice.
Is there any way to get any more detail/ contrast in the head of the femur area?
Disclaimer- I am not an expert, but I did take a dental course in a holiday inn two days ago. Hoping the best for your dad.

Edit- now that the glare is off my computer screen, that looks broken to me. If that is a full on fracture, putting him in traction might help temporary pain. If is is broken, probably total hip replacement at his age. Perhaps they would try to pin it, but I don't know. Don't ask me how I know.
