The timing range for our 2.4's at 6000 rpm is 32 to 38 deg. If I set mine idle at factory spec 5 deg ATDC my advance at 6000 is only 33 deg. I set mine in the middle of TDC and 5deg ATDC line. That 2 1/2 deg bump at idle bumps my total advance to a tad under 36 deg. Much better idle and wakes the car up. I do use 91/93 octane. Or as John said eliminate the vac retard. at 6000 the timing bounces a little so use a good timing light.
Yep, I too run my timing advanced. I'm old school and time by ear/feel, which equates to 35.
