Difference in offset is common knowledge between early and late cars. 87+ has a larger offset to account for ABS that are on some 87+ cars. Because of this difference in offset, there is a difference in angles on the top mounts of the struts. It's not large but it's enough for >86 and 87+ struts to not be interchangeable (without some work anyway).
