About 15 years ago my dad built a black 3.3 Turbo with a Carrera flares - second best car he ever built. At first he wanted it to be a sleeper so he ran it with no tail ... that didn't last long. Here is a quick story with a lesson to be learned.
He was making the trip out to Las Vegas from LA, and somewhere in the middle of the desert he decided that he would open 'er up to let her breathe. He had the car going about 150 for a couple of minutes and decided that it was time to slow down. As he lifted off the throttle, the back of the car started to wag ... I don't mean get darty, I mean it started REALLY MOVING AROUND. He eventually got things calmed down and from there on out kept the speed around 100. But the very day that he got back to his shop he put a Carrera tail on the car - never had a problem with wag again.
Lesson, all turbo cars need a tail - whether it's a Duck, Carrera, or Whale. At turbo speeds, downforce is necessary.
