People weren't using vacation so they started use it or lose it thing. They went by accrued days. So at the beginning of the year you lost down to zero and couldn't take any until your built it back up.
Then they decided you could carry 40hrs to the next year. But there were people that didn't have any carry over days and still had to accrue days before they could take vacations.
Now you get your yearly allotment of vacation on January 1, and can still carry 40 hours.
I am assuming it won't be very long before we lose it and get our allotment on Jan 1st.
This year they are running overtime and don't really want people all taking off just to keep from losing their vacation so they are buying vacation back up to a point.
January is going to be a big month. 10% bonus for past year, 40 hours vacation buyback, and overtime if your department works it. Much better than last year when they laid off over half the workforce.
