Some lack of game stories:

There was a girl in my history class junior year of high school who was quiet, absolutely gorgeous, and I assumed WAY, WAY, WAY out of my league. She was really my dream girl, smart, reserved, friendly, self-confident, and independent. I rode the bus to and from school. Kind of a lame thing, as all of the cool kids drove or got rides from their friends. One day, towards the end of the school year, she was hanging out around my bus. I politely said hello as I started to get on the bus. Her eyes widened, she looked right at me, and she said: "Chris, I need your help!" She explained that she had to park at the middle school across the street (this was allowed as overflow student parking for the high school) and she wanted me to walk her to her car. I protested a little (like I said, no game) and said that I needed to catch my bus home (it was 7 miles to my house from the school). She quickly volunteered that she would give me a ride home. I walked her to her car, she drove me home. Once in my driveway, I quickly thanked her for the ride, hopped out, and rushed in the house.

It didn't occur to me until my mid 20's that:

-My high school had 36 busses yet somehow she had figured out which one was mine and waited for me specifically.
-She was waiting for me specifically.
-I should have invited her in to my house, asked her out, asked to hang out....something!
-She might have been interested in me. (My whole assumption that she was out of my league prevented me from even considering this possibility.)

There were two girls I did date in high school--both my senior year. One had to ask me out herself. She was a sophomore and she asked me to Homecoming (talk about self-confidence!) and I turned her down. I had this idea that because I was so uncool, I couldn't possibly be seen at a dance. I did eventually ask her out and we dated for about 3 months. The other girl basically had to pursue me from the second half of junior year all the way through to around Christmas senior year. I had broken up with girl #1 a few weeks before Christmas (and I was a total jerk to girl #1 about it). Unbeknownst to me, girl #2 had enlisted one of my best friends to help her find me the perfect Christmas gift. One day, she delivered the gift and promptly kissed me. Only then did I realize she was interested!

Looking back, most of the girls that I pursued were not interested in me. I asked a few girls out in high school and almost all turned me down. Then there were the girls that I assumed were out of my league. At least three of them I have later found out were totally interested in me!
