When I got my 914 they said keep it below 4,000 for 600 miles, but vary the RPM, so long long road trips. I picked it on a Friday and brought it back Monday morning with 601 miles and a big grin on my face.
With the Macan they said the same, 2,000 miles and keep the revs below 4,000. It is easy with a 7 speed transmission.
With the El Camino, redline is 5,000 and I bet I have not hit 4,000 RPM more than twice in over 300,000 miles of driving it. It is totally breathless above 3,200 RPM. It has lots of torque down low so it is silly to run up the revs. It was weird breaking in the cam with the new engine. Sit in the driveway running it at 2,000 RPM for 20 minutes. That was about all.
